Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden star as elite agents of the fallen global spy agency Citadel, on a pulse-pounding quest to save the world from a powerful evil syndicate. But Mason Kane (Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Chopra) need to recover their lost memories, before dealing with a relationship built on love, secrets, and lies as they embark on a mission to revive Citadel.
Prime Video’s Citadel is a groundbreaking spy universe with a first to launch global series and local spinoffs set in the Italian Alps and India. Season 1 will have Madden and Chopra Jonas as the lead agents, with Stanley Tucci starring as the agency’s resident tech genius. In fact, Amazon India Originals such as Farzi and The Family Man will have a connection to the Citadel universe, said Sushant Sreeram, country director, Prime Video India, at a media event ahead of Citadel's Asia Pacific premiere in Mumbai.
Gaurav Gandhi, VP, Asia Pacific, Prime Video, added, “Citadel is the beginning of a new, ambitious, landmark franchise—one built on a completely original IP—with interconnected stories that traverse the globe. This is an amazing way to create a really diverse global community of storytellers and make entertainment truly borderless.”
With Citadel, Chopra Jonas has become the first South Asian woman to lead a network TV show in the US. “Amazon strongly believes in diversity and true diversity is represented internationally, not just by having different skin tones but also by hearing the way people speak and actually delving into their culture. This show has an incredible ability to span across every country and continent,” said Chopra Jonas.
Citadel is scheduled to premiere on April 28, 2023 exclusively on Prime Video. Here’s everything you need to know about the global spy franchise.
What is Citadel all about?
The high-octane series follows Mason and Nadia, who narrowly escaped death after their independent agency was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows.
The two operatives had their memories wiped and have since been living new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. When Mason is tracked down by his former colleague Bernard Orlick (Tucci), he learns about the new world order Manticore is trying to establish and is compelled to stop them. Mason then seeks out his former partner Nadia and embarks on a dangerous mission to stop Manticore while navigating their complex relationship.
“Citadel has been incredibly physically demanding. But I think that’s what really drew me to it. It’s not simply a gun show or a fight sequence. This is how these two characters interact physically and how they dance together,” said Madden.
