One man chases his dream of becoming the country’s next superstar. Jubilee is a throwback to a different era of Hindi cinema—the 1940s and 50s—where a world of glamour, glitz, aspirations, and betrayals take centre stage. Part one (episodes 1-5) of Jubilee, an Amazon Original series, is streaming now on Prime Video. Part two (episodes 6-10) will release on April 14. Here’s everything you need to know about the show.
What is the show all about?
Jubilee is a layered drama that chronicles the lives of a studio boss Shrikant Roy (played by Prosenjit Chatterjee), a movie superstar Sumitra Kumari (played by Aditi Rao Hydari), a trusted aide (Binod Das played by Aparshakti Khurana), a rising star, a nautch girl, and a refugee. The series explores the gambles they’re willing to take in pursuit of their dreams and of love. “When Vikramaditya Motwane (the series co-creator and director) first came to me with the story, I instantly connected with the character of Shrikant Roy. He is a person who lives and breathes cinema and has dedicated his life to it. As someone who has worked in the industry for four decades, I could immediately relate to that,” said Chatterjee. Jubilee brings alive the style and mannerisms of the 1940s when the talkies culture ruled the silver screen. “Jubilee was a complete no-brainer for me. When I heard the story, and especially Binod’s journey, I knew I had to do this role. It is one of the most challenging characters I have played to date but also the most rewarding,” said Khurana.
Who else stars in it?
Jubilee also features Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, Nandish Sandhu, and Ram Kapoor. The series also has Shweta Basu Prasad, Arun Govil, Sukhmanee Lamba, Aarya Bhatta, Narottam Bain, Alok Arora and Suhani Popli in important roles.
Who has produced the show?
Jubilee has been co-created by Vikramaditya Motwane and Soumik Sen and directed by Motwane. The series is produced by Andolan Films in association with Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Studios. Its deft screenplay and dialogues have been written by Atul Sabharwal. Jubilee features soundtrack composed by Amit Trivedi.
