7 years of Amazon Prime Day in India
In India, the first Prime Day was launched in July 2017 as a way to celebrate Prime members. Since then, we’ve laid the foundation for an exclusive world of shopping and entertainment for customers across India. Prime membership plays a big role in how Amazon is making online shopping a part of everyday life in India. Customers get the best value on products from the comfort and convenience of their homes. Free and fast shipping is the foundation of Prime and is overwhelmingly the biggest reason new customers sign up for Prime memberships. Amazon Prime is designed to make your everyday life better via the best of shopping, savings, and entertainment in one single membership.
Amazon Prime has even extended product access into smaller towns, making e-commerce a phenomenon beyond tier 2 and 3 cities. What’s more, members who watch Prime Video or listen to Amazon Music renew their memberships at higher rates and often shop more. We know that you come for the shopping but stay for the entertainment!
With the annual shopping event just around the corner, here are a few interesting facts you didn’t know about Prime Day over the years.
In 2022, the sixth edition of Prime Day in India was held. Prime members got exclusive access to deals and new launches across a whole range of products and multiple categories. Members from 95% of India’s pin codes made purchases and over 27,000 sellers saw their highest ever sales day. Nearly 70% of the sellers who received an order were from tier 2, tier 3 and tier 4 cities.
In June 2021, Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Day Delivery. Prime members could enjoy a more predictable and convenient delivery benefit: the option to choose a weekly delivery day for the items they purchased throughout the week. With Prime, we disproved the myth that Indian customers will not pay for convenience. Today, we have millions of paid Prime members across the country.
In August 2020, Amazon India launched ‘Gaming with Prime’ which was rebranded as ‘Prime Gaming’ in December 2022. Enjoy frequent new content drops and launches across top international and Indian mobile games.
