If ‘consistency is key,’ then I have much to be proud of—or maybe not—as I go down a social media rabbit hole every night. A peek into my Instagram feed will have you convinced ‘you need that viral product in your routine’ or ‘you are missing out on the launch of the year.’ But thanks to my role as a beauty editor, the first order of business is to try, test and review if new products and features really work.

One such recent find for me was Amazon’s latest SkinCare Analyzer feature, which aims to provide tailored skincare solutions for different skin types and concerns. So here we are, putting the feature to the test:

The problem

The ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach—especially when it comes to skincare—doesn’t work. Every skin type has different concerns, and using the right products and routine for your skin type is crucial—and a challenge. Today, we might be aware of our skin type, but the struggle to find and use the right products is prevalent. Add to that, new skincare brands and products launch frequently, making discovery of the right products extremely difficult. Every scroll on the internet comes with multiple choices and a lot more confusion.

How are you supposed to rummage through thousands of cleansing products, all vying for your attention? How can you identify products meant for your specific concerns? Is there a way to simplify this? Maybe…

The solve

To tackle this issue, Amazon has launched the Amazon SkinCare Analyzer on its app to help provide tailored skincare solutions for every skin type and concern. Users who search for skincare-related keywords will get the feature’s widget prompt on the search page. Clicking on it will take them to a dedicated page, where they will be prompted to do a quick survey in order to get personalised recommendations. The SkinCare Analyzer feature can also be accessed on the beauty category page of the Amazon.in mobile site and shopping app. Look out for a banner that reads ‘Find a skincare routine that’s right for you.’

How the SkinCare Analyzer feature works

First impressions

While searching for a cleansing balm that has given me sleepless nights, I stumbled upon the SkinCare Analyzer feature on the Amazon app. I clicked on the ‘Find a Skincare Routine that’s right for you’ banner to land on Amazon’s Skincare Analyzer. The process was uncomplicated, and it started with a skincare quiz where I answered a few basic questions about my skin. I was asked about my skin type (dry), concerns (dryness, dullness, anti-ageing), preferences (no parabens/silicones/sulphates), non-negotiables regarding products (cruelty-free, sustainable), eye care (dark circles, puffiness), etc. There were eight questions that came with multiple-choice options, and I had to pick and choose my answers.

The whole process was effortless and, most importantly, time-saving. If I had been made to sit and write paragraphs about my skin concerns, I would have skipped the quiz. I also liked that I wasn’t bombarded with too many questions, and the survey stuck to the basics that I would have answers for. The feature also gets brownie points for adding eye care to their list of questions as eye care routines are often overlooked.

The process

After answering all the questions, I was directed to the results page, where a curated selection of products was presented based on the preferences I had selected. Based on my concerns about anti-aging, hydration, and dull skin, the recommended products catered to those very issues and my dry skin type. But that was not it.

Here's how to get limited-time promotions during the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024.

The highlight was how the products were segregated according to different skincare routines, such as cleansing, moisturising, treatments, protection, and eye care. Every routine had a customised selection of 11 to 12 product options, sorted according to my skincare preferences and needs. For example, Cleansing had face washes, makeup removers, toners, and exfoliators—the whole gamut of cleansing concised into twelve suggestions for me. Eye care gave me different under-eye cream options like a gel eye cream, a roller ball massager eye cream, under eye mask or eye patches. I liked that those twelve suggestions didn't just list out an eye cream for me but gave me options in different textures and formats to have a whole routine.

The results

The obvious last step was to buy a few products from the selection and see if the recommendations helped. I stocked up on products I already use, like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Cetaphil DAM Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion, and L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Eye Serum, as they were at great discounts. But I also wanted to try new products, so I got the Neutrogena HydroBoost Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel

and it is working well for my dry skin. There was SunScoop Hydrating Fluid Sunscreen, which I picked up for sun protection: it comes in a spray format, has no white cast, is cooling and hydrating, and my skin has been enjoying dipping in this body sunscreen. I was also introduced to this Foxtale The Diva Overnight Glow Mask, and it has turned out to be a game-changer in my routine.

What's next? I am definitely going back and scouring through the rest of the suggestions, as I am pretty impressed with what I have tried. Buying and actually using the products from the suggestions gave me the confidence that the Skincare Analyzer feature means business, and it did deliver on giving ‘the’ skincare routine meant for my skin.

These useful tools and features will help save you time and money while shopping during the upcoming Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 (September 27 onwards).

The verdict

Amazon’s Skincare Analyzer did not only make my shopping experience easy and effortless but also gratifying to get a personalised routine specific to me. It was a relief not having to scroll through thousands of products, but instead come home to a selection of products meant for my skin and my concerns.
