Nitin Gadkari virtually flags off fleet of Electric Vehicles
Amazon India today reaffirmed its commitment towards the electrification of its last mile delivery fleet to reduce its dependence on non-renewable resources at a virtual event with Shri Nitin Gadkari, leaders from Amazon India and CEOs of leading OEMs. Amazon India recently announced that it is working with Mahindra Electric to add more electric vehicles (EV) in its delivery fleet. Today, Hero Electric as well as start-ups such as EVage are engaging with Amazon India to expand the company’s fleet of EVs to enable sustainable deliveries of customer orders. Amazon India’s Delivery Service Partners are already operating EVs of multiple formats in over 20 cities in India including Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Indore and Coimbatore to name a few.

50 lakh small & medium businesses now use Amazon Pay
As part of Amazon’s commitment to digitally enable small & medium businesses (SMBs) in India, Amazon Pay today announced that it has empowered over 50 lakh neighborhood stores & businesses with its digital payments infrastructure. These SMBs, most of whom earlier transacted only in cash, can now accept payments from their customers using Amazon Pay’s QR Code.
This milestone achievement was revealed by Amazon’s Senior Vice President, Russell Grandinetti, in conversation with Nandan Nilekani during the session ‘innovating for a better India’ at Amazon Smbhav.

AWS announces Amazon Digital Suite to enable digital transformation for SMBs in India
Today, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of the Amazon Digital Suite, a curated set of software solutions aimed at enabling India’s small and medium businesses (SMBs) to easily digitize their operations and bring their businesses online. Running on AWS, the suite provides a broad selection of business software focused on SMBs from seven AWS Partner Network (APN) Technology Partners in areas such as accounting, customer support, and human resources. This unique offering is available for purchase exclusively on Amazon.in. The launch of the Amazon Digital Suite builds on Amazon’s commitment to digitize 10 million Indian SMBs by 2025, announced in January 2020.
Spotlight North East: From the hills of Manipur this startup serves wild tea
Indians are tea lovers, and have produced tea varieties that have enchanted the world. And the latest entrant in this list is wild tea from the North East of India.
Manipur-based Forest Pick is an up and coming startup which specialises in wild tea. The family-run business was co-founded by Boilal Gangte and his sisters Aijulie, Jemshe, and Julie, in 2018. The wild tea plants – grown in clusters across Manipur’s mountains - can live for hundreds of years, while tea plants in plantations usually last for 30-40 years. Also, wild tea can be harvested twice a month for eight months in a year.

Amazon India today announced the winners of the Amazon Smbhav Awards 2021. Founder and Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal felicitated the winners at Amazon Smbhav 2021 on day one of the Amazon Smbhav summit 2021. Amazon Smbhav Awards celebrate and recognize businesses, innovators and individuals who have excelled in their field of work by innovative adoption and implementation of technology to contribute to the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat and push forward the development of India’s SMB ecosystem. Over 1,200 businesses, innovators, and individuals who have excelled across sectors were nominated across 11 different categories. The ‘Spotlight North East’ initiative is designed to boost the local economy, create jobs and accelerate financial inclusion and empowerment of women and the tribal community across the North Eastern region of India. The program aims to bring the benefits of ecommerce to 50,000 weavers, artisans, a majority from the tribal communities, and local small businesses including offline neighbourhood stores across the region by 2025 by enabling them access to technology and customers. Amazon will focus on bringing 5000+ unique crafts, Geographical Indication (GI) products and other local products on its India marketplace.
Amazon reiterates commitment towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat
In the opening session of its flagship event Smbhav, Amazon India today announced a $250 MM Amazon Smbhav Venture Fund (the Venture Fund) to invest in startups and entrepreneurs focusing on technology innovations in SMB digitization, Agriculture and Healthcare. The Venture Fund will invest in technology led startups that are passionate about unlocking possibilities of a digital India. The Venture Fund will specifically focus on encouraging the best ideas to digitize SMBs (Small & Medium Businesses), drive technology led innovation in agriculture to improve farmer productivity and enable them to bring the best of India’s farms to consumers, and enable universal and quality healthcare access for all using technology.Read More

Amazon India Launches Amazon Mentor Connect program for thousands of Start-ups & Emerging Brands
Amazon.in today announced the launch of the “Amazon Mentor Connect” ahead of Amazon’ flagship event - Smbhav. The Amazon Mentor Connect program is aimed at accelerating the growth of start-ups and emerging brands owners enrolled in the Amazon Launchpad program - helping them gain exclusive access to guidance from VCs, industry veterans and Amazon leaders through expert knowledge sharing sessions, networking events and 1:1 mentorship sessions. Mentors from Educational Institutions and VC firms like Fireside Ventures, DSG Consumer Partners, Elevation Capital, Tomorrow Capital have already signed up for this program and are looking forward to contributing to the Indian startup growth story.

Amazon India today provided an update on the progress it has made on its commitments made in January 2020, to announce that it has digitized 2.5 million MSMEs, enabled cumulative exports worth $3 billion and helped create nearly 1 million jobs in India till date. Last year at the inaugural Smbhav Summit, Amazon had announced an investment of $1 billion to digitally enable 10 million MSMEs, enable ecommerce exports worth $10 billion and create 1 million additional jobs in India between 2020 and 2025. The company is on track to fulfil these commitments.

Amazon India today announced that it will host the second edition of ‘Amazon Smbhav’ from April 15-18th, 2021. Smbhav 2021 will bring together important industry and thought leaders for invigorating discussions on way ahead towards creating an Aatmanirbhar Bharat by unlocking possibilities for businesses and entrepreneurs through a partnership with Amazon. Amazon Smbhav will be a four-day virtual summit hosted around the theme of ‘Unlocking Infinite Possibilities for India’ across sectors like manufacturing, retail, logistics, IT/ITeS, content creators, start-ups, brands and entrepreneurs across India.
